Time management is the one skill that we could all stand to improve upon. While many of us wish that there were more hours in the day, all too often we realize that the time is there, we just need to do a better job of utilizing it. To be completely honest, time management is a skill that I still struggle with everyday. But just like a professional athlete, you need to know how and why you are making mistakes before you can make the necessary changes to correct them.
My biggest problem with time management is procrastination. For whatever reason, my natural instinct seems to be to put off until tomorrow what I am more than capable of completing today. And time and time again, this procrastination has come back to haunt me. Sadly, I am all too familiar with the reason why I keep falling into this familiar pattern–I am not changing my approach.
A great way to avoid procrastination is to take the most difficult or most dreaded task on your to-do list and take care of it first. Now you no longer have to deal with the stress of that task hanging over your head and the rest of your tasks will be easier. It is an approach that I have used many times and it works great. I just can’t seem to do it enough to take this approach from great advice to an everyday habit.
Another great time management tool is using an electronic calendar. Now that most of us use a computer or smart phone on a daily basis, we have access to great time management software. Setting reminders on your cell phone is a great way to keep on top of your daily tasks. There are a lot of different programs (including email) which can help you to get organized and manage your time better. Try one out today and enjoy a better tomorrow!
